Drug Detoxification is the gradual withdrawal of an abused substance in a controlled environment. It is a period of medical treatment, usually including counseling, during which a person is helped to overcome physical and psychological dependence on drugs (American Medical Dictionary, 2000).

Patients undergoing detoxification need to know that someone cares about them, respects them as individuals, and has hope for their future.

“Detoxification” is a set of interventions aimed at managing acute
intoxication and withdrawal. Detoxification does not constitute substance abuse treatment but it is one part of the continuum of care for substance-related disorders.

Supervised detoxification can prevent potentially life-threatening complications that might appear if the patient were left untreated.

There are three essential components to detoxification (San Luis Medical Journal, 2011):

Evaluation entails testing for the presence of substances of abuse in the bloodstream (drug testing) and screening for co-occurring mental and physical conditions to determine the appropriate level of treatment following the detoxification.

Stabilization includes the medical and psychosocial processes of assisting the patient through acute intoxication and withdrawal to the attainment of a medically stable, fully supported, substance-free state. This is often done with the assistance of medications.

Fostering the patient’s entry into treatment involves preparing the patient for entry into substance abuse treatment by stressing the importance of following through with the complete substance abuse treatment continuum of care.

Glutathione is a protein called a tripeptide – a molecule composed of three amino acids. It is a potent antioxidant and quenches dangerous free radicals. It also binds to dangerous toxins through a process called “conjugation” so that they can be safely eliminated. It is very helpful for:

Neurodegenerative diseases
Parkinson’s Disease
Multiple Sclerosis
Alzheimer’s disease
Athletic Performance Enhancement
Liver Diseases (Hepatitis, fatty liver, cirrhosis)

It is believed that pain affects men and women differently. This may be due to hormones, psychology, and culture (John P. Cunha, DO, FACOE, 2014).

Pain is a feeling triggered in the nervous system. Pain may be sharp or dull. It may come and go, or it may be constant. You may feel pain in one area of your body, such as your back, abdomen or chest or you may feel pain all over, such as when your muscles ache from the flu.

Pain can be helpful in diagnosing a problem. Without pain, you might seriously hurt yourself without knowing it, or you might not realize you have a medical problem that needs treatment. Once you take care of the problem, pain usually goes away. However, sometimes pain goes on for weeks, months or even years. This is called chronic pain. Sometimes chronic pain is due to an ongoing cause, such as cancer or arthritis. Sometimes the cause is unknown (NIH: National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2012).

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat pain. Treatment varies depending on the cause of pain. Pain relievers, acupuncture and sometimes surgery are helpful. Treating chronic pain can be challenging. And it may take several types or combinations of treatments before you find relief. Early treatment may prevent the pain from getting worse.

In OCCC, the goals of treatment are to reduce your pain and increase your ability to function. This includes improving your sleep and your coping skills and reducing stress so you can return to your regular activities.

The Doctors in OCCC build a clear treatment plan for our patients. Part of this plan includes identifying ways for you to manage your pain. Only you know the severity of your pain and how it affects your life.

OC Comprehensive Care (OCCC) encourages you to ask questions to our doctors if you are not clear about what steps you can take when pain occurs or gets worse. If your chronic pain is not relieved after you have tried numerous treatments, you have the options to either call us for an appointment or walk-in. Treatment is provided by a team of doctors who work together to address all the things that may cause your chronic pain.

The following are some facts about Chronic Pain:

*Acute pain results from disease, inflammation, or injury to tissues and comes on suddenly. The cause of acute pain can usually be diagnosed and treated, and the pain is confined to a given period of time and severity.

*Chronic pain persists over a longer period of time than acute pain and is resistant to most medical treatments. It often causes severe problems for patients.

ADD, ADHD, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION EVALUATION – In OC Comprehensive Care (OCCC), New Patients who visit the clinic for ADD, ADHD, ANXIETY, and DEPRESSION EVALUATION are required to sign and fill out the internal office forms regarding the nature of their consultation. On the other hand, Patients who visit the Office for follow-ups can either make an appointment or just simply walk-in.

The rule is, they should be visiting the office once a month and the Administrative Medical Assistants give them a call either two (2) to three (3) days to remind them about their due visit. Patients with appointments are being processed or prepared right away by the Administrative Medical Assistants. After the Doctor’s evaluation, they are given new prescription.

It is religiously observed in OCCC that patients who are taking prescribe medications should undergo drug testing to determine the validity and to confirm that they have such medication on their system. Otherwise, if the Doctors discovered upon consultation that they are just “pseudo patients” after verifying the result of the tests, Doctors may charge them reasonable fee.

MEDICAL CANNABIS RECOMMENDATION – If you are seeking legal access to Medical Cannabis/ Grow Cannabis or just wanted to learn more about the various advantages of Medical Cannabis, the Doctors in OCCC are most willing and eager to guide and help you. The Doctors in OCCC usually accommodate new patients for Medical Cannabis Recommendation, Recommendation to Grow, and Patients for renewal.

Patients who visit the office for Medical Cannabis Recommendation for the first time are required to present their legal Identification Card. This ID can be State I.D, Driver License, or Passport. OCCC makes sure that Patients who consult for Medical Cannabis do not have any DUI record. Otherwise, such is a sufficient ground for automatic rejection or will not be accommodated. There are various internal office forms that Patient should fill out before Doctor’s consultation.

On the other hand, Patients who visit OCCC for renewal are required only to present or show their expired Medical Cannabis Recommendation, valid State ID, and pay the necessary fee.

Medical Cannabis Patients have the option to avail Medical Cannabis ID with Recommendation or just simply the Cannabis Recommendation itself. More so, this program or service being offered in OCCC is solely and strictly for adult patients only.

Minors who are diagnosed and treated with Medical Cannabis are advised and encouraged to see other Doctors or can make an appointment with our Doctors for further education or consultation.

OC Comprehensive Care offers clinical skin assessments and facial analysis that includes complete treatment plan beginning from the initial consultation. It also offers BOTOX Cosmetics which is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown line between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people whose age ranges from eighteen (18) to sixty five (65) years of age for a temporary or short period of time.

Medical facial aesthetics and cosmetics are done in-house and such procedures are conducted by our Doctors who are licensed and certified. More so, this program or service includes skin analysis, deep cleansing, exfoliation, customized masque toner, customized moisturizer, and sunscreen, vitamin C firming masque, anti-aging antioxidant treatment, revitalizing toner, restorative moisturizer, deep pore-cleansing masque, calming masque, soothing medicated toner, light chemical peels, and waxing. If the patients wanted to have extractions, such is being done after they have requested and filled out the form specifically for that procedure.

Patients in OCCC who would like to avail of this program or service usually set an appointment at least two weeks in advance to determine the availability of the Doctor or expert who will be doing the procedure.

Hormone Therapy (HT) is a clinical procedure which refers to either estrogen or combination estrogen/progesterone treatment. The term “hormone therapy” or “HT” is being used to replace the outdated terminology “hormone replacement therapy” or “HRT”.

In OCCC, Doctors usually prescribe hormone therapy (HT) as a combination of estrogen and another synthetic female hormone, progesterone. Synthetic progesterone compounds are referred to as progestin. This program or service is being offered to either male or female patients.

Long term estrogen without progesterone increases the risk of uterine cancer (endometrial cancer), whereas addition of progesterone counteracts this risk. Therefore estrogen without progestin is usually only recommended for women who have had their uterus removed (hysterectomy). Estrogen is available as pills, tablets, patches, creams, and mist sprays. The choice of estrogen preparation recommended by the doctor depends on the women’s symptoms. Although progestin is usually taken in pill form, it is also available, together with estrogen, in patch or cream form.

Doctors may prescribe different schedules for taking hormone therapy (HT) depending on the patient’s needs. Patients who avail this service or programs usually make an appointment for at least two (2) weeks prior to the procedure to confirm the availability of the Doctors.

WEIGHT LOSS AND GAIN In response to one of the social issues confronted in our community which is Obesity and its opposite, OC Comprehensive Care came up with a unique program or service to address this issue.

From time to time you may notice fluctuation in your body weight and when you think about it, you can usually find an explanation. Maybe you have been exercising less or eating more and vice-versa. These fluctuations are considered to be normal. The time to be concerned weight loss or gain is when the cause is not readily apparent. Doctors in OCCC are very keen and particular on it. They are always ready and prepared to answer all your questions and would even do initial diagnosis.

Patients who avail this Program or Service in OCCC are being monitored regularly. Their monthly follow-up is very important for the Doctors in order for them to determine the effectiveness of the treatment they have provided. More so, the Front Office Staff usually remind them either through phone or e-mail as to when they are due for follow-ups and such is being made two (2) to three (3) days prior to their follow-up.
